BILIRAN POLICE PROVINCIAL OFFICE

 

BACKGROUND

     Biliran province is situated in the northern most part of Leyte Island with a total land area of 555.42 sq km, and is accessible via land, and seawater transportation. It composed of two (2) major islands; the mainland Biliran which comprises the seven (7) coastal towns namely; Naval, Almeria, Kawayan, Culaba, Caibiran, Cabucgayan and Biliran, and the lone island town of Maripipi. It has 132 barangays and 215 sitios with a total population of 170,385 based on the latest census of the National Statistics Office. Of this figure, 88,497 are registered voters. Farming and fishing industry are the main sources of income of the people.

     Biliran province is endowed with natural beauty attractions where both local and foreign tourists were looking for, a peaceful place where you can relax and enjoy the beautiful waterfalls, beach resorts, water spring, coral reefs, caves and mountains and other natural scenic sites that can only be found in this beautiful island paradise of Biliran.

     Among the attractive scenic sites are Kasabangan Falls located in sitio Tagaytay, Brvgy Balaquid Cabucgayan; Tinago Falls in Sitio Pulang Yuta, Brgy Cabibihan, Caibiran; Casiawan Falls in Cabucgayan; Bagombong, Kinaraha and Pundol Falls in Almeria; Tomalistis Falls and Mainit Hot spring in Caibiran; and Libtong Hot Spring in Naval.

     The province also takes pride in its white sand beaches namely: Agta Beach Resort in Almeria, Banderahan beach in Naval, the exotic island of Dalutan with its natural sculptured rock formations in Maripipi, the Sambawan Island with its rich marine life and coral gardens, the Higatangan Island famous for its moving white sand bar, the Cogon beach in Kawayan and the Tingkasan Island famous for its mysterious bat caves and edible shellfishes.
